I have been a Redman standing power chair owner since 1998 and the new Blackhawk is my latest of 3 chairs. I would like to say that this chair is leaps and bounds above the older Redmans and the other brand of power chairs I have tried. It is quicker, better riding and much more versatile than any other. It is just well so danged handy. The chair is very stable and comfortable when sitting or standing. When standing it is not at all tippy or hard to get around in. I can finally get fairly comfortable in a chair. The 2" shorter wheelbase, once mastered, is really convenient when maneuvering in the house or loading on a vehicle ramp. I have tried other chairs and I always compare it Redman. The Redman team has done a great job. They have listened to the end users, regarding what is needed to have a superior product and that's what it's about, the patients needs. After a initial trial period the learn how the chair responds; all the people who purchased a Redman Power Chair will not be disappointed. I know it meets and exceeds all my expectations.

This review is on my second Redman chair. I got the first one when I was 10 years old, and drove that every day for about 4-5 years until I outgrew it. As a little kid, I beat the heck out of the chair and it just came back for more, (we still have it in the garage!) After I outgrew that chair, my parent’s insurance companies had changed and I was forced to buy a Permobil because of some special coverage they had, and while that chair was okay, but it didn’t stand me nearly as good, and the knee bolster twisted to the point where I could no longer use it as a stander, and the padding was so thin, it bruised my shins. Heck, I couldn’t even pull up to a table because the seat was so high. So when I outgrew THAT chair, our insurance had changed again, and we were allowed to buy another Redman and we didn’t hesitate. It stands me better, I can fit under tables, their customer service and repair folks are great. This chair is lightning fast too; I can cruise at almost 9 mph. I get a little wheel flutter on one of my anti tip casters at that speed, but that’s kind of to be expected. I love it. I stand a couple of hours a day, and when I graduated from High School, I was able to receive my diploma while standing! It was cool. I’m almost 20 now, and have had this chair for about a year. I’m in college, drive it every day and hope to be standing in this chair when I graduate from college!

Strengths: I love my new Black Hawk...actually it's BLUE! It's so great to stand and feel like one of the gang. This is the most standing I've done in 6 years. Wow do I love this chair. It has lots of power going uphill and pulling the hoses around from the garden. I love using it in my work shop. I can go from one work spot to another standing up. It is really nice to be able to hang stock up at work without getting help. The staff at Redman is the best, bar none. Every time I call, they are very professional. The staff is very helpful and goes to great lengths to satisfy me.

Redman has been excellent in its warranty replacement. Sam Redman came up with an alternative to the glitchy ALM unit. Many of the previous weaknesses have been changed over these last three years. One surprise: the lighting system is handier than I would have imagined. Category 24 batteries have lasted three years so far. They appear easy to replace. The armrest leveling gear had to be replaced; I do not use it for lifts, although I certainly lean on it for support. Like all products in this category, the cost would get you a hybrid vehicle...somehow it boggles my mind. I had a drive motor showing intermittent failure this year. Sam immediately diagnosed it and had a replacement shipped in no time. It was fairly easy for my son to swap. The chair is much more reliable without the ALM as part of the electronics. I like being able to speak to the support personnel in Arizona.

It is quick and agile and once set up correctly is a real treat to ride. It is compact and relatively light. It is easy to load in and out of a vehicle. It is much improved from my first Redman chair and I love the separate reclining and standing controls. It is hard to get used to at first with its very short wheelbase but I have found that to also be an asset once you have conquered its quickness and compactness. I love this chair and would recommend this chair to all intelligent people that are only limited by their handicap. It is well designed and backed by a great staff. I have tried many others and they just do not measure up to this wonderful, innovative chair.

This would be my second Redman chair. The first one was used and abused and after holding up admirably for nearly 8 years, my insurance company decided that I could replace it. It is obvious that years of building chairs has paid off. This new chair is awesome from the engineering and build to the function and operation of the chair. It is simply to operate and built to last and best of all, if it ever is necessary to work on the chair it is very basic to repair making it superior to all others in its class. The very best thing about it is the Redman staff; they are there to solve any problem that you might have. Like any well built machine, it does take some knowledge and understanding of its operation. It can be a jet or a snail depending on your capabilities. You also have to respect the standup feature especially when moving. I guess what I am saying is the only weakness that I can see is in the mind of the person driving it. For those of you that want to truly enjoy a great wheelchair and a great staff, Redman should be your chair and your company. Between Amy, Paula, Sam, Don, and Mike, all of them are there if you need them. They have been my chair provider for 8 years and they will be my chair provider for as long as I need a stand-up wheelchair.

This chair has given me back my independence! I love being able to do my own shopping and the standing feature allows me to reach any item in the store. I have never had a problem with my chair. Sam, mike and terry have always tried to promptly address any of my concerns. Each chair is customized to the individual and some tweaking was necessary at the beginning. Since then and in the five years I have owned this Redman chair, I have replaced the gel batteries only once. When my battery charger was deemed less than optimum, Redman exchanged it for the newer model. Understandably, after a certain amount of use, all screws & connections need to be checked and tightened. This is my vehicle and i use it as such. Every day i am thankful I run on batteries & not gasoline. Servicing and maintenance is part of any vehicle ownership and i find my chair satisfies all my needs with minimal servicing and expense. I know for a fact that Redman is currently adding more field service representatives. I would & have recommended this chair.
